Like Child’s Play

After a two month residency at MoCA, spent in the lanes of old Shanghai, Seth revealed his vision of this city through this body of work, where he used the streets and alleyways like an urban artistic playground. This series of paintings and installations at MoCA summoned childhood memories that questioned the evolution of this massive city over the past few years.

In 2015 Seth left his mark on old Shanghai for the first time. He returned three years later to this inspirational city to more profoundly explore the local culture, immersing himself in its traditional cultural spirit, and using as his canvas the walls of the last old working-class neighbourhoods. Seth gives offers us an image of China that he has been pursuing him since childhood, through a visionary approach that speaks to those who grew up in Shanghai, balanced between memories of the past and a curiosity for the future.
