Shanghai
Shanghai
Between February and March 2018, Seth made over twenty paintings in the old neighbourhoods of central Shanghai. Painted in the alleys, almost emptied of their population because of their upcoming destruction, they represent one or more children playing with emblematic games of the 70s and 80s. Today, when the learning and experience of the world is acquired more and more through the tablets and other screens, Seth reminds us of the time not so far away when we played in the street, when the public space was not only a place of passage but also of life and sociability.
The contrast between simplicity and lightness of the characters and the chaos embodied by the half-destroyed and abandoned buildings is striking. Despite their apparent innocence, the children of Seth tell us about the world and its metamorphoses.
